My teaching goal is to guide my students in their learning. Teaching is not only about helping students to complete a task or achieve a short learning goal but also about their learning skills and methods and helping them to improve their ability to learn and to enjoy learning. My classes expose students to various teaching methods, including TPR, community language learning, and communicative approaches. I measure the different needs of students through student feedback, formative evaluation and summative evaluation and help them to improve their learning outcomes.
Each student is a different individual and has a different background and experiences. An inclusive classroom environment provides students with a safe and comfortable learning experience. In the classroom, I encourage students to express themselves and allow them to use their strengths and expose their weaknesses in classroom activities. I build trust by showing students my true feelings, discovering their potential and strengths, and expressing praise and appreciation in interacting with them.
The relationship between student and teacher is positively correlated with the student’s attitude towards learning and learning outcomes. In my classroom, students do not need to worry about compromising my perception of them by making mistakes. Instead, I encourage them to make mistakes in my words and actions and guide them to see their shortcomings in a positive and developmental light. When students stop worrying that their deficiencies in a particular area of performance will affect my opinion of them, they feel comfortable in my classroom and thus see me as their partner in learning. As a result, I build a collaborative relationship with them in my classroom, which pushes them to be bold in their learning and increases their autonomy in their learning.
I have a strong sense of empathy and can promptly detect changes in the psychology and state of individual students. I allow students to express themselves authentically in front of me so that I can understand their inner feelings during the learning experience. I make timely adjustments in my teaching based on their performance and give them the psychological and academic support they need.
